Shortwave broadcasts can be transmitted over very long distances (ex. from one Continent to another) from a single transmitter, thus making it difficult for Government Authorities to Censor them. Government Authorities cannot determine if you are listening to a Foreign Radio Station. Shortwave Radio remains Important during War times.

Digital Shortwave Radio
A New Standard has been introduced to receive Audio in a Digital format via Shortwave. The New Standard is known as DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale). DRM is not yet widely adopted. DRM Radio Receivers are expensive and not easily available. The Sound Quality is Superior to Analog.
